Fast Five: Jeff Duncan on Parkway West vs. Kirkwood

Patch asked Parkway West Football Head Coach Jeff Duncan five quick questions as the Longhorns take on Kirkwood High School Friday.

The Parkway West High School football team is revving up for its third game of the season. With a slow 0-2 start, falling to and with home-field advantage, the Longhorns are taking it on the road to face the Pioneers of Kirkwood High Sept. 7.

Ballwin-Ellisville Patch asked Longhorns Head Coach Jeff Duncan five fast questions as he and the team prepare for their next game. Here's what he had to say:

Patch: Other than a "W," what is a main goal you have for the game against Kirkwood this week?

Parkway West Football Head Coach Jeff Duncan: Our goal is to get better.  Our focus is on "us."  We have to get better at what we do each day and each week.

Patch: What struggles are the Longhorns dealing with? (Injuries, defense/offense, etc.)

Duncan: We have turned the ball over 8 times in the last 2 games.  It's hard to win games doing that.  Our focus is to hold onto the football.  On defense, our goal is to tackle better and not give up any big plays.

Patch: What do the Longhorns have that Kirkwood doesn't and vice versa?

Duncan: I do not believe that we have anything that Kirkwood does not have.  I don't think that would be fair to say as they are the #1 ranked team in the state and in the St. Louis Metro Area. However, we have great team chemistry.  Our kids pull for each other and believe in each other.

Patch: What improvements have the Longhorns made since their last game?

Duncan: We have had a good week of practice.  We are continuing to try and ask our players to play within themselves and do the best they can do.  That is all that we can ask each week.

Patch: If you had to say one thing to your team right now, what would it be?

Duncan: Compete.
