Fast Five: Parkway West Football Faces Parkway North for Pink Night

Parkway West varsity football team is poised for a home game this week against rival Parkway North Vikings (2-4). West is still looking for its first win this season with a handful of games remaining.

The Longhorns are also ready for Pink Night, honoring October as Breast Cancer Awareness month and joining other West athletic teams in donning pink during competition.

Ballwin-Ellisville Patch asked Head Coach Jeff Duncan about the team, the season and their competition.

Patch: How is the team faring this week in preparation for Parkway North? 

Duncan: We have had a really good week of practice and preparation. 

Patch: What is something to look for in play this week? 

Duncan: Mistake free football. Start fast and finish strong. 

Patch: What are the guys doing for Pink Night and how can fans support the cause? 

Duncan: We had a "pink dye day" for our kids after practice on Wednesday. They dyed socks and wristbands. We were able to have a really good conversation with the boys about the meaning of this and why teams show their support in awareness of this terrible disease. 

Patch: What has been the highlight of the season so far for you? 

Duncan: Working with these boys each day is a highlight. We have a really good group of boys who work hard and play together. We get to see consistent improvement each week from our guys. It might not show to the person in the stands, but our coaches and players get to see this each week. We are always working towards playing better each week and developing our program and players into the best that it can be. 

Patch: How have you seen the team improve from week one? 

Duncan: Turnovers and penalties really hurt us over the first few weeks of the season. In the last two games, we have only had one turnover and two penalties in each game. Our players have worked really hard in protecting the football and not making mental mistakes that will cost our team yardage in penalties. That is not winning us games right now, but it's a step in the right direction.
