Rockwood, Parkway Schools Meet, to Some Parents Dismay

Thursday's snowfall around Ballwin of approximately 1 to 2 inches was enough to cause delays, though both Parkway and Rockwood schools held classes this morning.

The Parkway and Rockwood school districts did not cancel classes Thursday due to snow, but KMOV has reported other school closures.

representatives posted a message on the district website Thursday morning stating that teachers would be lenient with late arrivals due to traffic difficulties.

In addition to inevitable disappointment in Ballwin's , more than a dozen people with connections to the Rockwood district expressed frustration on the district website with the decision to hold classes.

A commenter using the moniker "Lisa ~Concerned Parent" wrote that holding classes jeopardized students' safety.Β 

"I get from Rockwood's view point they might have felt it was a tough call today," she wrote. "However, from a parents view point; you might have wanted to play the better safe than sorry card! When making decisions like today, please make it about safety. Our kids are priceless."

Another commentator expressed concern about student absences.

"It is snowing again and the classes will be extraordinarily unproductive with the large number of missing students," the commenter wrote. "Please declare a half day and release early so we can safely get our kids home. Consider sparing us the drama tomorrow if it all re-freezes."

A commenter named Dominic wrote that his vehicle slid while driving this morning and encountered unplowed surfaces along Wildhorse Creek Road and Missouri Route 109.

"Why did we have school today?" Dominic wrote. "At the end of 1st hour there were only 4 county busses as school and not a single city bus had arrived yet. Poor Planning..."
