Ballwin-Area Spots to Watch the Cardinals Take Game 3

Get a quick preview of tonight's home playoff game against the Philadelphia Philles and decide where you want to watch.

The St. Louis Cardinals take on the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the National League Division Series this afternoon, with the first pitch at 4:07 p.m. in Busch Stadium. Have you got a plan to watch the game?

St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bernie Miklasz called the Cardinals a team with grit in his latest column about the team: “Philadelphia might be shocked, but not St. Louis. The Cardinals never were supposed to be here. They were done, gone, finished. They trailed Atlanta by 10.5 games in the NL wild card race on Aug. 24, then proceeded to destroy every piece of conventional wisdom.”

Meanwhile, Philadelphia Daily News columnist Paul Hagen laments the format of a series in which “a bad bounce here, a bloop hit there can send the team with the best record in baseball packing and the club that snuck into the postseason on the last day of the season one step closer to the World Series.”

So, we’ll be watching, one way or another. Prime-time isn’t an option for us. That slot goes to the Yankees at Detroit (7:30 p.m.) and Milwaukee at the Diamondbacks (8:30 p.m.)

If you’re a working man or woman, where will you be watching the Cardinals game? Will you be able to watch it at all?

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch website provides online, pitch-by-pitch updates on Major League Baseball games, as does, of course, ESPN.com. Check the site’s baseball home page for links to the games.

But if you can sneak out early, you might check out some of the sports bars with good viewing around Ballwin and Ellisville:

— A large open space with giant televisions and plenty of darts and bar games available to get you through a 7th inning stretch.

Frailey's Pub & Grill — A good family vibe and delicious food make this a great spot to get a full stomach during the game. A great spot for a group.

— It's a basic but successful formula: Many tables, many televisions, beer and chicken wings. Order a high plate of wings and take home some leftovers for the celebrations (or consolations) later tonight.

Lester's Sports Bar & Grill — It's big, it's clean, and the televisions are probably bigger than the car your drove to the bar. A clear view of the game is just about guaranteed.

The Corner Bar & Grill — Don't let the Mizzou paraphernalia make you think this place doesn't love baseball. Get rowdy and get comfortable in any of the multiple seating areas and you'll feel right at home.

— For a more laid back environment, stop by Mulligan's and enjoy a slow drink and some friendly conversation at a traditional pub perfect for savoring quality baseball.
