Game Preview: Parkway West Hopes to End Skid at Seckman

Parkway West (1-2) can even its mark with a win at Seckman (0-2). The game features a battle between Longhorns running back Ed Carter, and Seckman RB Blake Pepper.

In 2010, the Parkway West Longhorns defeated the Seckman Jaguars by a decisive score of 56-10. This Friday night, head coach Mike Roth will bring his Longhorns onto Seckman’s home field for a Suburban South Conference matchup at 7 p.m.

Roth is hoping for a similar result.

, with its only win coming on opening night against University City, 47-33. The Longhorns have two consecutive losses and hope to break that streak with a much-needed road victory.

Offensively, the Longhorns are led by senior running back Ed Carter. He has rushed for 270 yards on 56 carries and also has a 76-yard receiving score. Junior quarterback J.C. DeMuri is 21-for-44 for 273 yards.

In the season’s first two games, Seckman has only scored seven points, while allowing a staggering 84 points. The Jaguars are coming off a 42-7 loss at the hands of the powerful Pioneers of Kirkwood last Friday night.Game Preview: Parkway West Hopes to End Skid at Seckman

If the winless Jaguars hope to fend off the hungry Parkway West squad, they need to rely heavily on standout senior running back Blake Pepper.

Last year, Pepper led the Suburban South by running for 1,575 yards on 284 carries. At 5-foot, 7-inches, Pepper makes up for his lack of size with his skill set and determination. However, he is off to a slow start with 79 yards on 28 carries after two games.

In last week’s 42-7 victory over Seckman, Kirkwood was able to shut down Pepper (15 carries for 36 yards). If Seckman is going to be successful against Parkway West, Pepper needs to get loose and find some holes.
