The Columbia Daily Tribune is reporting that University of Missouri Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel will return to the Tiger sidelines in 2013. After an injury-riddled season that robbed the team of a consistent offensive line and quarterback play in Mizzou's 5-7 first season in the Southeastern Conference, Athletic Director Mike Alden told the paper Pinkel would return next fall.
The Tigers will not play in a postseason bowl game for the first time since 2004.
Pinkel is scheduled to review the 2012 season and look ahead to next season with reporters Tuesday morning, after a flurry of uninformed speculation had rumors flying he would resign Monday.
Keeping the current Tiger coaching staff has implications for several St. Louis area Senior prep standouts who have pledged to play in Columbia next fall, including CBC's Aarion Penton, Rockwood Summit's Eric Beisel, Francis Howell's Harneet Gill, Fort Zumwalt South's Chase Abbington and Maplewood's Antar Thompson. Players cannot sign binding letters of intent until February.
De Smet's Andy Bauer, a junior offensive lineman, and one of the state's top recruits in next year's class, is still considering the Tigers after making a verbal pledge last spring and re-opening his recruitment. Bauer was a guest at the University of Alabama this weekend.
So now that we know Coach Pinkel is staying, what would you suggest be done to get the Tigers bowling again?
