Hlas: Gabbert Is Modest, 'Aggressive'

Mizzou quarterback Blaine Gabbert of Ballwin tells Hawkeyes' columnist Mike Hlas about his mindset on the field.

Leading into Tuesday night with University of Missouri facing the Hawkeyes at the Insight Bowl, Mizzou quarterback Blaine Gabbert of Ballwin set a conservative tone in describing his playing style.

Speaking to Gazette columnist Mike Hlas of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Gabbert said he tries not to forget that his role is pretty often like that of a lieutenant's.

"I like to say I'm an aggressive quarterback," Gabbert said in the article. "But at the same time, I've got to be the manager of the offense. I can't be making stupid decisions."

Gabbert, who formerly played for , has led the Tigers to a successful regular season as a junior this year that includes 10 wins and 2 losses. Hlas wrote that to date, Gabbert personally has 18 wins under his belt, along with 39 touchdown passes with a low 16 interceptions.

"Gabbert also rushed for over 400 yards this season if you take away the yardage lost to 20 sacks," Hlas wrote.
