International Boys Baseball Returns to Ellisville

A tournament made up of youth teams representing nations across the globe is on target to come back to Ellisville next month, with new organizers hoping to make this year's gathering more inclusive of the community.

The World Series may not truly represent baseball from across the globe, but that isn’t stopping little leaguers around Ellisville from rallying for an international tourney.

Early next month, the 2011 Kenko International Games will be hosted by the Ellisville Athletic Association, which is taking the reins from the now-dissolved St. Louis Boys Baseball Association to help organize the event, association president Chris Schmitz said.

“We really want this to be something the community can be a part of," Schmitz.

The competition is scheduled to include teams from Japan, Australia and several squads from throughout Europe, all competing within two divisions for U-12 and U-15 players.

There are five teams scheduled to represent the United States comprised of “the very best players from the area” around St. Louis, Schmitz said.
