Lafayette Girls Rep All-Conference Soccer Squad

Lafayette as well as Eureka high schools each have 4 first-place selections on the recently-announced 2011 Suburban West girls team.

The 2011 season was a memorable one for several girls soccer teams in the Suburban West Conference.

won the league title and also captured the Class 3 District 4 championship. Meanwhile, Lindbergh won 20 games and also won a district title, winning in Class 3 District 2. Northwest won only two league games but peaked in the playoffs, winning the Class 3 District 1 championship.

Lindbergh beat Northwest, 1-0, in an all-Suburban West Conference matchup in the Class 3 sectionals. But the Flyers then lost to Ursuline Academy, 1-0. Ursuline also ended the season for Lafayette. The Bears defeated the Lancers, 1-0, in sectional play.

Lafayette and Eureka led the way in the recently announced all-conference team with four first-team selections each.

Senior midfielders Jessica Hanson and Abbey Angevine and junior forward Colleen Cole and junior defender Kelsey Clayman were first-team picks for Lafayette, which was 19-8 overall.

Sophomore Hannah Leinert, who was second in the league in scoring with 14 goals and eight assists, and tied for first in the league with five game-winning goals, is one of Eureka's first-team picks.

Senior defender Torie Goode, junior midfielder Haley Albert and sophomore midfielder Sammi Dunda were the other first-team Wildcats.

Lindbergh had three first-team selections, including the leading scorer and top goalkeeper in the league. Senior forward Rachel Greer led the Suburban West in scoring with 18 goals. Junior goalkeeper Nina Tzianos had an outstanding season with 20 victories, including a league-leading 15 shutouts. She also led the league with a 0.76 goals-against average and a .088 save percentage. Senior defender Jen Jung was the Flyers’ other first-team player.

Parkway South, which tied with Eureka for second place in the conference with a 6-2 mark, also had three first-team picks: senior forward Leah Winzen; senior defender Katie Hoener; and junior midfielder Nicole Breece.

Marquette and Northwest had two first-team picks each.

Seniors Sam Vaughn, a defender, and midfielder Maddie Bush represent Marquette on the first team, while senior defender Kayla Fortner and junior goalkeeper Alyssa Arnold were picks from Northwest. Arnold had nine shutouts and a 0.89 goals against average.

Each conference team had a representative on the first team as Oakville, Mehlville and Fox had one choice each.

Lauren Fussell was Oakville's lone first-team selection. The junior midfielder led the league with 10 assists. Mehlville's Kaela Luna was one of the league's most dangerous players. The sophomore forward had 13 goals and tied for the conference lead with five game-winning goals.

Sophomore forward Kayla Farr was named first team from Fox, which went winless in eight league games.
