Marquette Athletes Taking Skills to NCAA

Four seniors at Marquette High School made official plans this month to play Division I field hockey.

A strong performance from the girls field hockey team earned them the winningest-record in the team's history and a top-four finish in the state tournament.

Now, the accomplishments of four of the team's top contributors last fall have earned the lady Mustangs the chance to compete at the highest collegiate level.

Christine Albertelli has signed with University of New Hampshire. Albertelli started her last three years with the team and captained her senior year on the tails of all-conference honors her last two seasons. In 2010, Albertelli was a 1st team All-Metro player, and was nominated for the NFHCA All-Region/All-American
team. She also is a member of the NFHCA High School National Academic
squad.

Abbey Heller will play for Missouri State University after three seasons as a starter and captain honors last fall. Heller also landed a spot on the Suburban Conference All-Tournament team, in addition to placement as a 1st team all-conference player and a 1st team All-Metro player.

Marisa Hendel, too, committed to Missouri State University. Hendel started both her junior and senior seasons with Marquette, and captained her senior year. She earned placement on the Suburban Conference All-Tournament team last fall, as well as a position on the 2nd team all-conference and the senior all-star game. Hendel also was a member of the NFHCA High School National Academic squad.

Shannon Regan will attend University of Miami-Ohio following four years as a starter with the Mustangs' squad, two of which were as captain. Regan took all-conference awards three times, including a Suburban Conference Player-of-the-Year award in 2010. She twice was named an All-Metro player, and qualified this year for the NFHCA All-Region Team and NFHCA High School National Academic squad.
