Notebook: Marquette's Seevers to Play College Baseball

Marquette senior Matt Seevers signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Division I Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Marquette senior Matt Seevers signed a letter of intent on Dec. 6 to play baseball at Division I Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Seevers is a very accomplished athlete. He is a three-year starter on Marquette's baseball team, earning Suburban West all-conference honors his junior year last spring. Seevers is even more well-known for his football ability as he was a first-team all-conference quarterback this past season, leading the Mustangs to the state playoffs and an 8-2 regular-season mark. He scored eight touchdowns after missing the season's first four games with a broken wrist. Seevers passed for 769 yards and ran for 786 yards in his senior season.

Seevers hit. 356 for the Mustangs last spring and had a 1.40 ERA as a pitcher in limited action. Marquette baseball coach John Meyer recently said he plans to use Seevers as both an outfielder and pitcher this coming season, with some action at DH as well when Seevers needs a little rest.

Marquette field hockey player Shannon Regan was selected as a National Field Hockey Coach's Association all-region player earlier this month, which is a national award. Regan completed her field hockey career as Marquette's all-time leader in games played and wins, and had already been named Suburban Field Hockey Player of The Year.

The Marquette girls basketball team lost, 63-49, to Eureka on Wednesday night. However, the Mustangs had won their previous six consecutive games and are still 7-2. Marquette's next game is Monday, January 3 against John Burroughs at Parkway West Tournament.

The Marquette boys basketball team beat Jefferson City, 38-37, on Wednesday to improve to 4-3. The Mustangs' next game is against Lafayette at Meramec Community College on Monday, Dec. 27 (5:30 p.m.) in the Meramec Holiday Tournament. Star forward Ryan Rosburg leads Marquette with his average of 20.5 points per game.
