Parkway West Will Retire Football Star Blaine Gabbert's Jersey

The 2008 Parkway West grad played for Mizzou and is a quarterback with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Parkway West High School will honor hometown football star Blaine Gabbert at halftime of this week's football match-up against University City.

Gabbert, a 2008 graduate of Parkway West, went on to play for the University of Missouri Tigers. In 2011, he was drafted 10th overall by the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and continues to play as a quarterback.

Parkway West will retire his jersey this Friday after recognizing this year's seniors for Senior Night. Football Head Coach Jeff Duncan said Gabbert is the first to receive this honor.

"Any time that you have a member of your program reach that level of play, it is an amazing accomplishment," Duncan said. "We are proud of what Blaine has done in his career at each level and are proud he is a Longhorn."

Duncan added Gabbert and his family will be at the game during the ceremony.

Although Duncan was not football coach during the Parkway West era of Gabbert's career, he said he is "honored to be a part of the Longhorn program" and the ceremony.

"He is a great role model for our players," Duncan said.
