Marquette Set for State Quarterfinal Showdown with CBC Saturday

The Mustangs will take on the Cadets on Saturday night at UMSL, with the winner advancing to the state's high school Final Four in Columbia next weekend.

ST. LOUIS — The biggest game in hoops history is set for this Saturday night, when the Mustangs will trek to the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a Missouri State High School Athletic Association Class 5 quarterfinal against Christian Brothers College High School.

Local internet message board rumors suggest the full strength of Mustang Nation, which many Ballwin and Ellisville-area supporters likely to be in the house Saturday night, when the Mustangs will play for the right to advance to the Class 5 Final Four next weekend in Columbia, against a CBC team many think might be the best team in the state.

Mustangs fans though seem to believe this is their year, especially after their team picked up three straight upset wins, including a heart-stopping, last-second victory in the state sectionals this past Wednesday night over Parkway North.

Marquette trailed the entire game against the Vikings, but still managed to earn the first playoff victory in program history on Wednesday, thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer by senior Mitch Cox.

On Saturday though, Marquette has the chance to make an even bigger moment and advance to the Final Four, if it can somehow get past a highly athletic CBC club that features at least three coveted Division I basketball prospects and one of the area’s top football recruits as well.
