Walmart Lawsuit, Prep Sports Start & Rick Perry

As of this writing, the biggest news of the week for our area could be a Wednesday hearing in the Missouri Court of Appeals over a lawsuit filed last year claiming that the city of Ellisville improperly granted a conditional use permit for the proposed Walmart project.

Walmart failed in an attempt to get an extension last week on that permit, set to expire September 5. Representatives for the retailer, the developer and the attorney suing the city over the permit wouldn't commit to what might happen if either side is successful at the appeals court level.

  • Thursday night, the Chesterfield, Lafayette, Meramec, Missouri River, Queeny and Wild Horse Republican Townships welcome Texas Governor Rick Perry to St. Louis County. The Republican, a former Presidential candidate in 2012, has raised eyebrows and the hackles of Democrats and KTRS Radio for an ad campaign which some have viewed as designed to poach businesses and lure them to Texas. Governor Perry will be speaking at the Doubletree in Chesterfield, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
  • The high school sports season kicks off in a big way, highlighted by the start of prep football Friday night. Check out our sports section for links to all your favorite Rockwood and Parkway School team football schedules.
