Ann Wagner Responds to Democratic Candidate Recount Results

After a recount resolved for the 2nd Congressional District's Democratic ticketholder, Republican candidate Ann Wagner says her goal is the same.

After the Aug. 7 primary race left Glenn Koenen the Democratic choice for the 2nd Congressional District with a slim winning margin of votes, challenger Harold Whitfield requested a recount. The recount was settled Sept. 12 and reaffirmed Koenen's win by 48 votes.  Ann Wagner, Republican candidate for the 2nd Congressional District and a Ballwin resident, had won the primary for the Republican ballot spot without any questions. "We started this campaign nearly 17 months ago with a goal of returning strong, effective and conservative leadership to Congress," Wagner said in an email. "Regardless of who our political opponents are, that goal still remains."   Wagner and Koenen are running for the 2nd Congressional seat for the Nov. 6 election…

Recount Says Koenen to Face Wagner in November

A recount didn't change the outcome of Missouri's 2nd congressional district democratic primary vote.

Democrat Glenn Koenen, of Oakville, will face republican Ann Wagner for Missouri's second congressional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Democratic challenger Harold Whitfield, of Kirkwood, requested a recount of the  Aug. 7 primary results after original returns showed a 48-vote difference between Whitfield and Koenen. The recount completed Wednesday shows Koenen winning the nomination with 7,894 votes to Whitfield's 7,848. Totals changed slightly with the recount but not enough for Whitfield to capture the majority of the votes, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday. Learn more at stltoday.com.

I was surprised Whitfield didn't win I'm glad he's asked for a recount; he is too good a candidate to be out of the race.   more ›

Congressional candidate Dr. Randy Jotte challenged Ann Wagner of Ballwin to a series of debates framed after the historical encounters of Abraham Lincoln and U.S. Senate incumbent Stephen A. Douglas. Jotte, who resides in Webster Groves and works at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, said in an email that the series of six debates would allow the candidates to "present ourselves before the people in a straight-forward fashion.” Jotte said three of the six debates should focus on reducing the national deficit, the economy and health care reform. “These topics certainly are on the minds of the public,” Jotte said.
