Would a No-Texting-and-Driving Law Stop You?

Missouri has a law that stop teens from texting and driving, but not adults. An AT&T survey says nearly of all adults admit to texting while driving. Do you?

It's been my experience after writing these kinds of articles for awhile that when it comes to technology issues, many commenters claim they aren't that savvy. They'll often claim they use the basic phones, never text, never watch TV—all of which I find hard to believe since they're obviously savvy enough to log onto a website, register and post a comment. I'm starting with a confession, and we'll see if anyone else is willing to 'fess up. I have texted in the car. When I've done it, it's been at stop lights and parking lots. And I'm not proud of it. I'm moved by the public service ads that have advocated against it. I remember the terrible accident on Highway 40 a few years ago when a tractor-trailer plowed into some cars because the …

Texting and mobile phones are by far the most common deadly-distractions, but lately I've been reading reports of people ending up in ditches and when the emergency response teams arrive, they find them hooked up to something known as an Accu-Jack. Basically, it's a sexual stimulator. One model even comes with a cigarette lighter adapter, made exclusivly for use in a vehicle. Personally, I'd be …   more ›

Ballwin Police Joins AT&T for Don't Text and Drive Campaign

Ballwin's police department is asking drivers to pledge to not text and drive for No Text on Board Pledge Day.

Sept. 19 marks the inaugural No Text on Board Pledge Day. The Ballwin Police Department is combining efforts with AT&T for the "It Can Wait" campaign, urging drivers to pledge against texting and driving. "There is no text message so important as to risk your life, so we hope everyone in Ballwin will support this effort and take the pledge," said Ballwin Police Chief Steve Schicker. "We applaud AT&T for its work to raise awareness of the dangers of texting and driving, and we are proud to offer our support." The National Safety Council reports more than 100,000 accidents occur each year involving texting and driving. A survey conducted by AT&T shows 75 percent of teens polled say texting and driving is "common" among their peers. The …

'Family of Gypsies' Charged with Ballwin iPhones Theft

Police said felony stealing charges were issued on all five subjects.

A group who described themselves to police as a family of "gypsies" have been charged with felony stealing following the theft Tuesday of about 30 iPhones from a Ballwin phone dealership, police said. James Konstantinov, 48; Biserka Dobobrov, 48; Zvinko Konstantinov, 29; Michael Dobobrov, 27; and Zvanko Dobobrov, 18 all face felony stealing stealing charges and were being held at the St. Louis County Jail on Wednesday. Each is being held on $75,000 bond, police said. Police said the theft occurred Tuesday morning when three people entered the store located at 15575 Manchester Road posing as customers. Two of the customers distracted store employees while the third entered the business's back area, filled a garbage bag with the iPhones then…

Ellisville AT&T Cell Tower in the Works

A new cell phone tower in Ellisville utilized by AT&T aimed at enhancing phone service is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

A work crew on site at the Mobile Gas station near the corner of Clarkson and Manchester roads made progress Monday toward erecting a new cell phone tower expected to boost cell phone service for AT&T users. A contract construction crew working on the tower, located behind the Mobil gas station at 15961 Manchester Road in Ellisville, said the new piece of hardware should be complete by the end of May. Crew members said the tower should be active in June or July, when an adjacent tower, currently disguised with an American flag at its top, is deactivated and its signals are transferred to the new piece of hardware.
