A Ballwin man faces a third alcohol-related driving offense after Webster Groves Police pulled him over on Interstate 44. Zachary Eli Cain, 23, of the 700 block of Reinke Road in Ballwin, was charged April 25 with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender, a class D felony. Webster Groves Police said an officer pulled Cain over after seeing him speeding and passing each vehicle on I-44 at about 10:27 a.m. Sept. 16, eventually striking another vehicle. The officer said noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Cain, and saw he had bloodshot and watery eyes. A two-vehicle crash on Manchester Road in Ellisville Tuesday morning injured three people and blocked several lanes of traffic for much of the morning. Police said the accident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. when a Jeep heading east on Manchester Road hit a Mazda crossing onto the westbound lane from East Meadow Lane, police said. Ellisville Police Sgt. Nancy Walker said it was possible that the driver of the Mazda had her view obstructed and was unable to see the oncoming traffic when she made the turn. One person was reportedly killed Friday morning when they struck a work vehicle in the I-270 work zone between Highway 44 and Manchester Road.
The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. Friday in the northbound lanes of I-270 near Dougherty Ferry Road when a driver struck a workers vehicle, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The crash had traffic on Interstate 270 backed up traffic for hours, even into the morning rush hour. According to stltoday.com, the highway patrol confirms one person died in the accident. That person's name has not been released. Kara Price, a spokeswoman for the Missouri Department of Transportation confirms the accident happened in the work zone for the I-270 expansion project that began this week.
