The Republican from St. Louis County represents Missouri's new Second Congressional District.
Ballwin native Ann Wagner took the oath of office in the United States House of Representatives Thursday, as the 113th session of Congress was seated. Wagner, the new representative for Missouri's Second District, succeeds Representative Todd Akin, and along with William "Lacy" Clay in the First District, absorbs the former Third District represented until Thursday by Russ Carnahan. Wagner, the former co-chair of the Republican National Committee and an Ambassador to Luxembourg, defeated Democrat Glenn Koenen in November. In a few weeks, Ann Wagner will be sworn in as the next U.S. Representative for Missouri's 2nd district, following her November victory over Democrat Glenn Koenen. Ballwin Honors Ann Wagner and Family with City Proclamation
Recently-elected 2nd District Congresswoman Ann Wagner and her family were recognized for their service to the city at the Ballwin Board of Aldermen meeting Monday.
After a delay returning from Washington, D.C., 2nd District Congresswoman-elect Ann Wagner arrived with her husband, Raymond Wagner, at the Ballwin Board of Aldermen meeting Dec. 10 to receive a city proclamation. "The Wagners are terrific civil servants to Ballwin and our country," said Ballwin Mayor Tim Pogue. Raymond Wagner served as a municipal judge in Ballwin in the early 2000s until taking leave after Ann Wagner became U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg in 2005. The Wagners also have three children: Raymond, serving in the 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell; Stephen, a senior at Washington University; and Mary Ruth, a senior at Ursuline Academy. The Oakville Democrat says he "will not quietly disappear into the fog," after loss to Ann Wagner.
The following statement was distributed via email Wednesday morning from the Glenn Koenen campaign for Congress: I want to thank all of you for the help you gave me and support you gave my campaign. You were inspirational and helped keep me committed to the fight. The election result in the 2nd Congressional District did not come out the way that I – and you – wanted. The mostly official tally shows Ann Wagner with 235,607 votes to my 145,257, giving her a 23% margin of victory. The good news is that my cost per vote was about 36¢ to her $12.00. Elections 2012 Results: Ann Wagner Takes Missouri's Congressional District 2
The GOP candidate said District 2 needs some "tough love" and she's ready to deliver.
Republican candidate Ann Wagner of Ballwin became Missouri's Congressional District 2 post Tuesday evening, declaring victory just after 10 p.m. at the Hilton Frontenac. Wagner defeated opponents Glenn Koenen (D-Oakville), Bill Slantz (Libertarian-St. Charles) and Anatol Zorikova (Constitution Party-St. Charles) for the seat held by GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin. As of 11:40 p.m., unofficial results on the Missouri Secretary of State website report Wagner had a 60.1 percent lead over Koenen's 37.1 percent with 75 percent of precincts reporting.
