The Westminster Lady Wildcats and the Parkway South Lady Patriots are both poised to face tough opponents in the Prepcasts Girls Basketball Shootout this Saturday at De Smet Jesuit High School in Creve Coeur The Shootout, with eight other high school teams spanning Missouri and Illinois, has Westminster Christian Academy facing Republic, both teams that made it to the Class 4 Final Four in state play last year. The Wildcats are off to an 8-2 start to the season. Parkway South, also 8-2 so far, will play Ozark. The Lady Patriots were in the running for the state tournament last year as well. The all-day event moves from CBC to DeSmet this year. Parkway South and Westminster are both participating.
The high-flying St. Joe Angels basketball team will highlight the Prepcast Elite V basketball shootout January 5 at DeSmet. Previous shootouts have been held at CBC. This event is hosted by the Prepcasts Broadcast Network. St. Joe will play Carthage in the 7:15 p.m. contest. Other games feature the defending class 5 state champs from Rock Bridge and Republic, a stronger contender from Southwest Missouri in this year’s event. Columbia Rock Bridge will face Marian Catholic of Chicago at 4:15 p.m. and Republic battles Westminster Christian Academy at 5:45 p.m. Webster Groves meets Dexter in the first game at 1 p.m. while Parkway South takes on Ozark, another Southwest Missouri powerhouse at 2:30 p.m. All games will be broadcast live on the …

Marquette's Ryan Rosburg and De Smet's Eric Moeller are already making an impression on their new teammates.
Under new NCAA rules, college basketball teams are now able to conduct formal practices with coaching instruction in the summer months, something previously limited to squads which took approved trips overseas before the season. Next month, the Missouri Men's basketball program will spend time playing in Europe, and the first of those practices started Sunday. But the team has been able to practice under the new set of rules since last month. That time has already been enough for a pair of St. Louis area products, Ryan Rosburg (Marquette) and Eric Moeller (De Smet) to make an impression. Students from 15 schools traveled to Parkway West High School for the 16th annual Special Olympics event.
Parkway West High School hosted 260 athletes at a Special Olympics basketball event for special needs athletes Monday. This is the 16th annual Special Olympics event at the school. The event was organized by West High's student council, Longhorn Council. Nearly 100 Longhorn Council members, plus other volunteers, served as buddies, helpers and coordinators at the event. Each athlete had a West High buddy for the entire event. The event ran smoothly for the most part. Students from 15 St. Louis metropolitan area schools came by bus to take part.
