Parkway West Football Honors Gabbert, Loses A Close One Against University City

The game went into overtime Friday night as the Longhorns honored alum Blaine Gabbert for the school's first jersey retirement ceremony.

Parkway West Will Retire Football Star Blaine Gabbert's Jersey

The 2008 Parkway West grad played for Mizzou and is a quarterback with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Parkway West High School will honor hometown football star Blaine Gabbert at halftime of this week's football match-up against University City. Gabbert, a 2008 graduate of Parkway West, went on to play for the University of Missouri Tigers. In 2011, he was drafted 10th overall by the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars and continues to play as a quarterback. Parkway West will retire his jersey this Friday after recognizing this year's seniors for Senior Night. Football Head Coach Jeff Duncan said Gabbert is the first to receive this honor. The Parkway West varsity football team is on the road again against the Webster Groves Statesmen (3-2) this week.  With the Longhorns dishing out continuous efforts to pick up a win, the team presses on in the season with four games remaining. Ballwin-Ellisville Patch asked Head Coach Jeff Duncan about the team, the season and their competition. Will Blaine Gabbert Make Up for a Rocky Rookie Season with the Jaguars?

The Jacksonville Jaguar and former Parkway West and Mizzou football star said he has learned to shut off the negativity.

Blaine Gabbert, currently shaping up to be the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars this football season, said he's learned valuable lessons about media negativity. The Parkway West grad and former Mizzou football player recently discussed a home upset with the Tigers against Oklahoma State in 2008. The loss crushed high championship hopes for the 2008 season after a built-up No. 1 ranking. Where positive media surrounding starting QB Chase Daniel started out the season, Gabbert believes the immediate negativity after the Oklahoma loss crushed Daniel in the end. Is Ballwin-Brotherly Love Bringing Tyler Gabbert to Florida?

Tyler Gabbert, a Parkway West High School graduate from Ballwin whose brother is in the NFL, is on track to play football for University of Central Florida next fall.

The travels continue for Ballwin's Tyler Gabbert, who plans to play football next fall with University of Central Florida, according to The Orlando Sentinel. The Parkway West High School graduate previously attended University of Missouri, where his older brother, NFL quarterback Blaine Gabbert played before entering the NFL draft prior to Blaine's senior year. Tyler Gabbert, meanwhile, planned to compete as quarterback at University of Louisville following his transfer from Mizzou, but left the team and didn't play in 2011, ESPN reported. The Orlando Sentinel said Tyler currently is taking classes for an associate's degree at a community college in St. Louis. Ballwin NFL Icon Heading to Sunday Frontlines?

Blaine Gabbert, a former Parkway West High School quarterback from Ballwin drafted last spring by the Jacksonville Jaguars, completed 5-of-6 passes in his NFL premiere.

Blaine Gabbert may have been the silver lining to an otherwise dim offensive display that quarterback Luke McCown gave Jacksonville Jaguars fans last Sunday. In fact, several media outlets now are speculating that the Ballwin native may soon lead the Jaguars' offense in the 2011 NFL season. McCown went 6-for-19 on Sunday, throwing four interceptions and gaining only 59 yards for the Jaguars, Yahoo Sports reported. That prompted coach Jack Del Rio to play Gabbert in the fourth quarter in his NFL debut—and a respectable one, to boot. Gabbert completed 5-of-6 passes and for a 102.8 QB passer rating. Gabbert Drafted by NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars

Blaine Gabbert, who grew up in Ballwin, officially was drafted into the NFL on Thursday.

Blaine Gabbert most likely wasn't banking on a career in the NFL when he was leading Parkway West High School as the Longhorns' quarterback before graduating in 2008. But after two winning seasons as starting quarterback at the University of Missouri, and an onslaught of media hype regarding his NFL future, Gabbert’s entrance into the NFL is a reality. What few, if any, draft observers expected, however, was seeing Gabbert taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the 10th overall pick—a relatively low spot for the 21-year-old who many rated as the No. 1 quarterback draft prospect. On Eve of NFL Draft, Blaine Gabbert Signs to Fans

The Ballwinite and standout Mizzou quarterback signed autographs to help the Parkway West Football Boosters on Saturday.

Football fans came from far and near for a chance to meet Ballwin native and probable first-round NFL draft pick Blaine Gabbert on Saturday, just a few miles from the home Gabbert grew up in. The Parkway West High School grad and former Mizzou star was at Auction Merchandise Service in Chesterfield to sign autographs, raise money for Parkway West Football Boosters and meet some fans. The first person in line, Chris Kortum of Ballwin, said he arrived two hours early for the 3 p.m. event with a football and photo to be signed. Greg Reynolds of Granite City, MO also arrived about two hours beforehand. “I'm a huge Mizzou fan and I wanted to make sure that I was able to meet him and get his autograph,” Reynolds said.
