Terry Adams will serve as interim superintendent for one year while the district conducts a formalized search for a permanent replacement for Bruce Borchers, who will end his tenure with Rockwood June 7.
The Rockwood School Board has named former Wentzville School District leader Terry Adams as interim superintendent, effective July 1. Board President Bill Brown announced Adams’ appointment Thursday night and said he brings with him a wealth of experience in education administration. His career includes 27 years as a Missouri superintendent at districts in Rolla, Park Hills and Arcadia Valley. Adams most recently served as the chief administrator at Wentzville for the past seven years and retired this past April. Adams will replace current superintendent Bruce Borchers, who has accepted a position at the Oak Ridge School District in Tennessee after signing on with Rockwood in 2010. The Rockwood School Board received tips on what they can expect during the process at a meeting last week.
The search for the next superintendent of the Rockwood School District is a process that could take months and cost around $10,000-20,000. That was part of the message delivered to the school board by Don Senti, Executive Director of the Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, who spoke to the board during a meeting April 18. Oak Ridge Board of Education directors in Tennessee unanimously approved a four-year contract with Bruce Borchers—currently the Rockwood School District superintendent—in a short, special meeting Monday evening, as published by a reporter for Oak Ridge Today. Borchers' salary reportedly is $178,000 per year, according to the Oak Ridge article. Following last week’s State Auditor report of what was called mismanagement within the Rockwood School District by some residents, a watchdog coalition group says more changes are needed in the district's leadership.
Public trust in the Rockwood School District superintendent and Board of Education continues to plummet—as do the chances of passage for the upcoming April bond issue “Proposition S”—indicates Rockwood Stakeholders for Real Solutions (RS for RS).
