Lawyers for impeached former Mayor Adam Paul are expected to rail against a move to keep a resolution to overturn the impeachment vote off the agenda.
It appears as though an attempt by the lawyer representing impeached former Mayor Adam Paul to have the newly elected Ellisville City Council either stay or reverse the previous council's move to impeach will not be on the council's official agenda when it meets Wednesday night. But the controversy over Paul's impeachment is sure to be a topic of conversation. Paul told Patch Tuesday that, as required, two council members backed putting the motions on Wednesday's agenda, but were rebuffed. "They'll do anything they can to prevent me from getting back," Paul said of Ellisville City Manager Kevin Bookout, City Clerk Kate Demeter, City Attorney and Special Counsel John Maupin. He accused them of "doing whatever they can to thwart the will of …

Councilman Matt Pirrello says he is capable of being objective, rebuffing accusations by Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul's lawyer that the impeachment process against his client is a smear campaign,
Ellisville City Councilman Matt Pirrello has denied allegations from embattled Mayor Adam Paul that he and other council members were involved in a “conspiracy” to oust the mayor. Paul’s lawyer, Chet Pleban, took to local airwaves Wednesday to discuss emails between Pirrello and city attorney Paul Martin that he said prove this point. The documents were obtained by Pleban after the city unsuccessfuly tried to block their release. According to Pleban, they show that Paul’s impeachment was part of a longer, covert campaign between the two men. He said it begin when Martin started taking notes on possible violations of the city’s charter by Paul shortly after he took office last spring. (For more detail on the emails, see Patch’s previous …

Chet Pleban, representing Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul, pointed to documents on Wednesday morning that show the city attorney and city council maneuvered to impeach Paul.
With his impeachment hearing scheduled for Monday, Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul's legal defense is attacking the nature of the process that brought the allegations against him. Chet Pleban, Paul's attorney, went onto St. Louis radio program the McGraw Show on KTRS this morning to discuss emails, documents and other testimony he has gathered at this point. He argued they showed Ellisville city attorney Paul Martin had been covertly maneuvering with members of the city council to impeach Paul. He said Martin had started compiling a document titled "Potential Charter Violations: Adam Paul" in May 2012, shortly after Paul's election. The city initially had fought the release of the documents, arguing they were protected by attorney-client …

Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul hired Attorney Chet Pleban to cover his case after a resident filed a complaint against Paul, suggesting his impeachment. After the complaint subsided with a negative recommendation from the Charter Enforcement Commission, composed of City Council Members Dawn Anglin, Michelle Murray and Linda Reel, Murray proposed a preliminary resolution within the same week to begin a new process to remove Paul from office. Pleban, who attended the council meeting last Wednesday when the council voted to draft the resolution, spoke during public comments requesting the council move on from the complaint filed last week. Have you read the ethically wrong things he has done on his emails and trying to interfere (sending the guilty documents a to the hearing officer a month before the hearing started) when he couldn't due to conflict? Our Attorney’s screw up alone is going to cost the case in the circuit courts no matter if he really did do something to get removed or not. Fire the city attorney and start with that…   more ›
