The Missouri State Highway Patrol is kicking up enforcement this weekend searching for drunk drivers as St. Patrick's Day celebrations take place around the St. Louis area.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is warning drivers to "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." Troopers and other police departments around the St. Louis area will be taking place in enforcing the campaign as St. Patrick's Day festivities take place throughout the area. The MSHP made the announcement in a recent news release. During the period of March 14-17, police are cracking down on drunk driving by conducting DWI saturations in an effort to remove impaired drivers from the road. Impaired driving contributes to nearly 30 percent of all Missouri fatal traffic crashes, the release stated. Here are the results from last weekend's Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. in St. Louis County. It was focused on cracking down on impaired driving.

As previously reported by Patch, “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team) took place last weekend in St. Louis County Saturday. Police will conduct operation A.R.R.E.S.T. this weekend in St. Louis County to crack down on impaired driving.
Missouri State Highway Patrol officers made the announcement of the crackdown in a news release. According to the release, “Operation A.R.R.E.S.T” (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team) will take place in St. Louis County Saturday. The operation will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 3 a.m., Sunday. "The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public’s awareness of the potential hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition," the MSHP stated in the release. St. Louis County Police pulled the man over on Big Bend Boulevard west of Kirkwood.
A Ballwin man now faces a third drunk driving charge after police pulled him over on Big Bend Boulevard in West County. Cory Peeler, 22, of the 100 block of Ivy Court in Ballwin, was charged Jan. 9 with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender, a class D felony. St. Louis County Police said an officer pulled Peeler over at 1:45 a.m. Sept. 8 on Big Bend Boulevard near Lodgehill Driver west of Kirkwood. Peeler also pleaded guilty to DWI in Ballwin Municipal Court in April 2011 and in Clarkson Valley Municipal Court in August 2008. Peeler posted 10 percent of a $5,000 bond, and was to be fitted with a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor (SCRAM) by Friday. Another driver was injured after the woman drove her car into other vehicles stopped at at traffic light on Highway 141.
A West County driver faces a criminal charge after the woman struck two cars waiting at a stoplight on southbound Highway 141 in Ballwin, injuring another driver. St. Louis County Police said the woman who caused the accident was driving while intoxicated. Sarah C. Johnson, 42, of the 2400 block of Barrett Heights Drive in West County, was charged Saturday with second-degree assault. St. Louis County Police said Johnson was southbound on Highway 141 and hit cars stopped at a stoplight near Milldale Drive and Manoro Way at the Ballwin city limits. One of the other drivers fractured a vertebra, police said. An officer responding to the accident smelled alcohol on Johnson, who told the officer she had two glasses of wine before driving. …

The Ballwin Police Department focused on its Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over initiative Aug. 17-Sept. 3. Ballwin officers issued 240 traffic tickets during that time: 5 for driving while intoxicated, 99 for speeding, 20 safety belt tickets and 116 other traffic violations, according to a statement from Ballwin police. "When we remove a drunk driver from the roads, we’re all safer," said Police Chief Steve Schicker. "Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make the simple and smartchoice to drive sober." Ballwin's Police Department will participate in Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
The Ballwin Police Department will be stepping up patrol for impaired drivers in a statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign Aug. 17-Sept. 3. The initiative is a state-wide effort in the force of driving while intoxicated (DWI) saturation patrols to crack down on drunk driving. “Driving drunk is simply not worth all the consequences,” said Ballwin Police Chief Steven Schicker. “Our message is simple and unwavering: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” According to a Ballwin Police statement, 220 people were killed and 902 seriously injured in vehicle crashes where an impaired driver was involved. Out of all Missouri traffic fatalities, 30 percent of them are attributed to impaired driving.
