Summer Reading Clubs for the Whole Family

Kickoff to the St. Louis County Library summer programs begins Monday so now is the time for Ballwin and Ellisville residents to register.

St. Louis County Library’s (SLCL) popular summer reading clubs will kick-off early this year starting May 13 and running through August 3. Summer reading club program guides are available at all SLCL locations. The Daniel Boone branch in Ellisville is a SLCL library. The library offers clubs for all ages: babies, kids, teens and adults, with fun programs and great prizes for each age group. Participation is free, and as an added incentive, preschool children through those entering 12th grade will have their fines waived when they sign up for a summer reading club (some restrictions apply). Selvidge Library Gets Galactic

Selvidge Middle School’s new library includes unique features tailored to science and technology

Students caught "spacing out" in the old library at Selvidge Middle School probably would have been disciplined. But with a new library this year that embraces outer space, students actually will be encouraged to crane their eyes skyward. Selvidge's library was officially unveiled last month, when administrators, teachers and students praised its unique features. Those include a built-in sky dome for planetarium projections, and a subtle circle theme throughout. "It's just overall nicer, " said Olivia Coomes, an eighth-grader at Selvidge and her class's student council president. "I like the layout, and the dome."
