Marquette Student Earns Synchronized Skating Medal

Ashlyn Kirkpatrick is part of a Missouri team to compete at the 2013 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.

The following release was provided by the Rockwood School District Communications Department: Ashlyn Kirkpatrick, a ninth-grade student at Marquette High School, recently earned a national medal for her team’s performance at the United States Figure Skating Synchronized Skating Nationals.  On the novice team, Kirkpartrick skates with others from across the area as part of the Metro Edge Figure Skating Club of Missouri. Many of the skaters on this team have been together for three years and shared a goal with the newer skaters to earn a place on the United States Synchronized Skating National’s podium.  This goal was recently realized in Detroit, Michigan when Synergy Novice performed an Italian-inspired free skate that earned the team 59.…

Marquette Grad Caroline Glaser Sings To Stay Alive on "The Voice"

The teen singer has made a deep run in the NBC competition so far, will she make it even further?

There have been blind auditions, battle duets and knock-out rounds, but Monday, Marquette High School graduate Caroline Glaser may have faced her toughest challenge yet on “The Voice” – a live audience. The NBC reality show and singing competition has shifted from the pre-taped segments to the live event. From here on out, each week the remaining artists will compete each other during a live broadcast and vie for votes from the TV audience. The two with the lowest totals will be sent home. Only a short time ago, the 18-year-old Glaser, a Chesterfield native, was doing the rounds at Picasso’s Coffee House in St. Charles. These days, her Twitter account has more than 31,000 followers. Marquette Senior Signs with Hannibal-LaGrange University Softball Team

Kristen Lee will become a student-athlete at the Hannibal, Mo., university next fall.

Kristen Lee, a senior at Marquette High School, has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Hannibal-LaGrange University. Lee has been a starter for the Marquette softball team. She was a 2nd Team Suburban West All-Conference player in 2012, helping the Mustangs advance tothe district championship game. Hannibal-LaGrange University is a private Christian college located in Hannibal, Mo. As an athelete at the four-year liberal arts college, Lee will be playing as a Trojan.

Missouri High School District Football Schedule

In the new Missouri system, every team has a shot at a state title. Find out when Ballwin and Ellisville-area schools play.

High school football coaches have been busy cramming about prospective opponents over the weekend. They left the field Friday and Saturday afternoon, still not quite sure who they'd be playing this week in the new state football playoff system that now includes the "district system" used in other sports, with seeding thanks to a point differential that made every score count. Saturday evening, that schedule was released.  Thursday Friday You can search the entire playoff bracket by going to the Missouri State High School Activities Association website.

Rockwood Names Marquette Seniors as Commended Scholars

Ten of the 40 Rockwood School District high school seniors just named Commended Scholars in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program attend Marquette High School.

Of the 40 Rockwood School District high school seniors named Commended Scholars in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program, 10 hail from the Marquette High School in Chesterfield. This year's Marquette recipients include: Commended students represent some of the most academically talented students in the nation, according to a Rockwood announcement. Although these students will not continue in the competition for 2013 National Merit Scholarships, they placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).  About 34,000 students across the nation are recognized as Commended Scholars.

Lafayette High Grad Earns Missouri AP Scholar Award

This student is one of two Rockwood School District students to earn this distinguished statewide award, and he is one of only three recipients in Missouri.

Richard Lu, a 2012 graduate of Lafayette High School in Wildwood, is one of two Rockwood School District graduates to earn the State AP Scholar Award through the College Board. Only three students in Missouri achieved this milestone. Additionally, only 108 students nationwide received this award, which is based on their outstanding performance on the 2012 Advanced Placement exams, according to a Rockwood announcement. The award is granted to the top students that score a 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP exams, and then the highest average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken.  “This is a significant accomplishment for these students, their teachers and their families,” said Rockwood Superintendent Bruce Borchers in the …

Marquette Students Advance to National Merit Scholarship Semifinals

25 students were named as Semifinalists in the Rockwood School District, 7 from Marquette High School.

Twenty-five new Rockwood School District seniors achieved Semifinalist standing in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to a district announcement.  Marquette High School recipients include: About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship competition when they took the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors, and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating …

Parkway Softball Invitational Hosts 16 Teams at Ballwin Athletic Association

The tournament kicked off the season for many area high school teams Aug. 22-24 this year.

The Parkway Softball Invitational allowed for 16 area high school varsity teams to vouch for this year's championship rights. The tournament, taking place at Manchester and Ballwin's athletic association ball fields Aug. 22-24, has been an area tradition since 1988, according to a West Newsmagazine report. Parkway South managed to defend its championship title from 2011, with Fort Zumwalt West contending but landing in 2nd place. Mizzou Hoops Recruits From St. Louis Getting Warm Reception

Marquette's Ryan Rosburg and De Smet's Eric Moeller are already making an impression on their new teammates.

Under new NCAA rules, college basketball teams are now able to conduct formal practices with coaching instruction in the summer months, something previously limited to squads which took approved trips overseas before the season. Next month, the Missouri Men's basketball program will spend time playing in Europe, and the first of those practices started Sunday. But the team has been able to practice under the new set of rules since last month. That time has already been enough for a pair of St. Louis area products, Ryan Rosburg (Marquette) and Eric Moeller (De Smet) to make an impression. Ellisville-Area Students Nab Perfect ACTs

Three students from the Rockwood School District earned perfect ACT scores, the district announced Tuesday.

Perfection is a difficult thing to attain, but two students from the Ellisville area managed to pull it off. Seth Ludwig of Lafayette High School and Dominick Rodriguez of Marquette High School both earned perfect scores on the last round of ACT tests offered, the Rockwood School District reported Tuesday. Savya Hingorani of Eureka High School also earned a perfect score. “Academically, these students are exceptional,” Jim Wipke, executive director of secondary education said. “We’re proud of their accomplishments and we’re confident they have the ambition and talent to achieve their goals.” The perfect scores of 36 reflect a composite average of four test areas, which cover English, math, reading and science, used to determine …
