Tigers have had a strong showing in the NFL, especially since the 1970s.
No doubt, with a 5-7 season, the Mizzou Tigers had a disappointing launch in the Southeast Conference (SEC). The inability to get six wins and earn a birth in a bowl game was painful. Still, the Tigers have had rich and proud heritage, especially when earning post-season recognition and putting players into the National Football League. Presently, the Tigers have three quarterbacks on active rosters: Blaine Gabbert, Jacksonville; Brad Smith, Buffalo (QB and wide receiver); and Chase Daniel, New Orleans. Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia, and Denario Alexander, San Diego, have become two premier receivers in the NFL. Sean Weatherspoon, linebacker for Atlanta, is a key member of the Falcons playoff-team defense. Two Tigers are enshrined in the NFL…

The University of Missouri-themed store quietly opened Aug. 29, but with a new sign installed Wednesday, it's set for a grand opening next Thursday.
It's probably a lament often heard in Mizzou Nation: Where can I lay my hands on a bottle opener that plays "Fight Tigers" when I pop the top of my brew? The answer is here at last. The Mizzou Store opened quietly in the Chesterfield Valley on Aug. 29, but has its official grand opening next week. And if you visit the store at 10 THF Boulevard, near the eastern end of the massive retail strip mall off of Highway 40, prepare yourself: You might overload on black and gold. There are T-shirts and sweatshirts, bottle cozys and blankets. There is even that bottle opener we mentioned earlier. "I think that's pretty crazy. That makes me laugh," said Michelle Froese, spokesman for The Mizzou Store. "We also have grill accessories so you can brand…

Tiger fans are getting ready for their first taste of Southeastern Conference football against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Mizzou football coach Gary Pinkel defended Joe Paterno and called him a great man during his SEC media day availability. What do you think of his remarks?
Remarks that University of Missouri head football coach Gary Pinkel made defending the now disgraced Penn State football coach Joe Paterno have at least one Missouri lawmaker at arms. Pinkel, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, called Paterno a "great man." That comment came just days after an investigative report concluded that top Penn State officials, including Paterno, had for more than a decade known of child sexual abuse allegations made against Jerry Sandusky and said nothing. According to the Post-Dispatch, Pinkel called Paterno a great friend and said the "greatness of this man" should not be erased. From the report: “You know, it's such a tragedy,” he began. “Joe Paterno was a friend I got to know professionally. You can'…

Marquette's Ryan Rosburg and De Smet's Eric Moeller are already making an impression on their new teammates.
Under new NCAA rules, college basketball teams are now able to conduct formal practices with coaching instruction in the summer months, something previously limited to squads which took approved trips overseas before the season. Next month, the Missouri Men's basketball program will spend time playing in Europe, and the first of those practices started Sunday. But the team has been able to practice under the new set of rules since last month. That time has already been enough for a pair of St. Louis area products, Ryan Rosburg (Marquette) and Eric Moeller (De Smet) to make an impression. Two of the pair's new teammates, forward Laurence Bowers and Tony Criswell, were in St. Louis this week for a basketball camp at Kennedy High School and …
