The students spent the day learning about the impact of bullying and watching a documentary on the issue.
According to Parkway School District staff, Wednesday was used as a day to educate Parkway Southwest Middle School students about the issue of bullying. District administrators are forecasting financial hits on programs from child nutrition to special education.
West St. Louis Country area school districts are crunching the numbers and trying to determine what mandated federal budget cuts would mean if they go into effect starting Friday as part of the so-called "sequestration process." The White House released a state-by-state projection saying "Missouri will lose about $11.9 million in funding for primary and secondary education, putting around 160 teacher and aide jobs at risk. In addition, about 17,000 fewer students would be served and about 60 fewer schools would receive funding." The Rockwood School District is working on the assumption that there would be a 5 percent cut in federal funding, approximately $387,809 that would come from programs like Child Nutrition, ROTC, Early Childhood …

While the Cooperating School Districts leader says school security plans are not a "one size fits all" proposition, he is advocating for changes that may require new taxes.
(For instant news updates follow Patch on Facebook and Twitter.) One attendee at last week's Safe Schools Partnership meeting was Don Senti, former Parkway superintendent and executive director of the Cooperating School Districts (CSD). He said superintendents who are CSD members are opposed to arming school staffers to provide security for school children. The Parkway School District is a member of the CSD organization. (Read more on the CSD's stance on school safety in the PDF portion of this article.)
