Sydney Stipanovich and Erin Nelson combine for 36 points to defeat Parkway South 72-43 in the quarterfinals at Lindenwood University.
There’s a little secret about the St. Joseph’s Academy basketball team. The performances by the mainstays on the front line--center Sydney Stipanovich and forward Erin Nelson are obvious. The twin performers dominated Parkway South from beginning to end to win the Class 5 quarterfinal game at Lindenwood University Saturday in convincing style over Parkway South, 72-43. Stipanovich had a double-double; 20 points and 16 rebounds. Ten of the 16 boards came in the first half. Nelson recorded 18 points in the route of the Patriots. The Angels earned a spot in Friday night’s Class 5 semifinals in the Show-Me Showdown at Mizzou Arena in Columbia against the winner of Cor Jesu or Hazelwood Central. But the little secret is that without the …

Holst, the 2012 Suburban West Conference Player of the Year, has a scholarship offer from Texas A&M, but now has to decide if he wants to go pro, or play in college.
Parkway South graduate Danny Holst's Tuesday came and went with some pretty good news. The South High baseball star found out that he had once again made the Suburban West all-conference team -- Holst's fourth such award in four years as a Patriot. And this year's honor was particularly special, because he had been voted Conference Player of the Year, after putting up another incredible season, which included a .460 batting average, three home runs, 30 RBIs, a .550 on-base percentage, and a .670 slugging percentage. "It's an awesome honor," Holst tells Patch. "The Suburban West has a lot of good players. And it's hard work just to compete in that conference. So I feel honored just to be considered." The Parkway South Patriots erased memories of a nightmare-loss in last year’s semifinals to claim their second district title in the last three years Tuesday night.
BALLWIN ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION—For an entire year, the Parkway South High School boys' baseball team had to sit around and think about what could have been last year, when despite being a top-ranked area team, they were bounced from the district playoffs early in an upset loss to Eureka. And that year-long dream finally became a reality for Parkway South on Tuesday, as the Patriots outhit, outpitched, and thoroughly outplayed pesky league rival Lafayette High School, for an 8-4 victory that gave South its second district title in the last 3 years. "We’re a tough team to beat,” South senior third baseman Michael Patterson, who led the Patriot offense with a game-high three RBIs. “We don’t have any shutdown pitchers. We just have guys that …

Senior Mark Waller scores 23 points, grabs eight rebounds in Patriots’ 55-38 win over Longhorns.
PARKWAY WEST HIGH SCHOOL — While game officials tried to figure out a scorebook issue that delayed the start of Monday’s boys basketball season opener between rivals Parkway South High School and Parkway West, the home fans decided to taunt South senior Mark Waller by calling him “Chubby”. It didn’t seem to make much sense, because Waller is in no way heavy. In fact, the 6’6" Parkway South High School power forward and Ballwin resident, looks to be in the best shape of his life. “I didn’t even hear it,” Waller said. “I just try to tune everything out, and just play. I didn’t even notice.” By the end of the night though, the only thing ‘chubby’ about Waller was his statline, which included a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds as he led …

Powered by 28-point third quarter, Cadets blow past Patriots for 47-0 win, and earn themselves a home playoff game, next week against Hazelwood Central.
The top-ranked football team in both the citywide and statewide top 10 rankings looked every bit the part Friday night, as the No. 1 CBC Cadets rolled over visiting Parkway South 47-0 in the final game of the regular season. “We had some spurts where we did look good,” CBC head coach Scott Pingel said. “We started off a little slow in the first half. We had some fumbled snaps that kind of put us in holes. But there’s always things we could clean up. But at the end of the day we’re pretty happy.” Indeed they should be, as the Cadets (10-0) wrapped up a perfect regular season with the shutout win over the Patriots, and can now add Class 6 District 3 champions to their list of 2011 accomplishments, which includes a second straight undefeated…

Suburban South champ Longhorns head to districts with 19-10 mark, while Patriots fall to 7-22-1.
PARKWAY WEST HIGH SCHOOL – After officially claiming their first Suburban South Conference girls volleyball championship since 2007, with a thrilling win over Webster Groves on Wednesday, the Parkway West High School team was back in action Thursday, with what was supposed to be a “victory lap” match of sorts against rival program Parkway South. West came into the night with an 18-10 record, while South was struggling at 7-21 this season, setting up what seemed like the type of matchup that would allow the Longhorns to celebrate their winning season all over again, by easily taking out a young Patriots club. But things didn’t exactly play out in that fashion, as South battled West much harder than most expected, and made the Longhorns …

A good win, and sounds like it was still a hard fought game from Lafayette. Good luck to the Patriots at sectionals!   more ›
