Parkway West High School’s yearbook, PAWESEHI, was just recognized for excellence, and featured in the 2013 Gotcha Covered Look Book, Volume 11—a book that celebrates the best-of-the-best in yearbook design and coverage from scholastic memories' national company Jostens. Yvette Lu, a dancer attending Parkway West High School, discovered Friday night while participating in the St. Louis Teen Talent competition she has a new STAGES St. Louis opportunity. Lu and 11 other finalists competed at the Fabulous Fox Friday to determined the program's 2013 ultimate winners. The program was presented by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation. What started as a field of 155 acts was narrowed to 37 semi-finalists, before the final 12 competed for top honors. All dozen finalists were evaluated on technical ability, stage presence, interpretation and originality: First place of a $7,000 college scholarship was awarded to celloists Halen (Whitfield) and Riew (John Burroughs), who performed “Pachelbel Pop." Which local teens will continue in this year's St. Louis Teen Talent Competition?
Two local teens recently advanced to the semi-final stage of the 3rd Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Competition. Of the seven acts from Parkway South, Parkway Central and Marquette High schools who competed in the preliminary stage on Feb. 9-10, the following two advanced and will compete in the semi-final round competition March 2. During the semi-final round of competition, 10 to 12 acts will be chosen to compete in the finals at The Fox on April 12, which is free admission. The contest got under way Feb. 9-10 when 155 high school students took their acts onstage in the preliminary round of a competition sponsored by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation. Students at the high school have organized events throughout the week to show their support for Alison Owen and her family. Owen suffered a brain hemorrhage and other injuries in a car accident Feb. 1 and remains hospitalized.
Owen's family is providing updates on her progress through the website Caring Bridge. Family and friends may also send messages of support and encouragement on the site. Related stories:

Four students from Parkway West High School attended the Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association High School Journalism Convention in San Antonio, Texas, Nov. 15-17. Students attended pre-convention conferences in broadcasting, design, writing and photography. In addition, students attended over 200 different hands-on sessions and write off competitions. Out of 1,734 write off participants, Olivia Mocino received an Honorable Mention for her academic story and caption writing, Emily Bailer received Honorable Mention for her Student Life story and caption writing and Megan Reilly received an Excellent rating for her Club story and caption writing. For the first time in 44 years, West High won Second Place …

In the new Missouri system, every team has a shot at a state title. Find out when Ballwin and Ellisville-area schools play.
High school football coaches have been busy cramming about prospective opponents over the weekend. They left the field Friday and Saturday afternoon, still not quite sure who they'd be playing this week in the new state football playoff system that now includes the "district system" used in other sports, with seeding thanks to a point differential that made every score count. Saturday evening, that schedule was released. Thursday Friday You can search the entire playoff bracket by going to the Missouri State High School Activities Association website.

The game went into overtime Friday night as the Longhorns honored alum Blaine Gabbert for the school's first jersey retirement ceremony.
The Parkway West High School (0-8) football team fought hard for its first win of the season during their last game at home of the season, but lost the game in overtime against University City (4-4) with a final score of 38-35.
