Ellisville Council Will Consider Reimbursing Fees for Residents Involved in Recall Lawsuit

Councilman Matt Pirrello asked Ellisville City Council to consider covering attorney fees for residents involved in a city lawsuit in August.

Ellisville City Councilman Matt Pirrello asked the Council to consider reimbursing legal fees for five residents involved in a lawsuit over the city's recall process earlier this year, according to an STL Today report. Pirrello had filed suit in August against the city and five residents who had been petitioning for the recall of Pirrello and other council members. The final decision declared the recall language in the city's charter unconstitutional, arguing the charter did not call for specified cause in the recall process. As Patch previously reported, the five residents involved in the lawsuit -- Julia Dolan, Mary Ann Dust, Vincent McGrath, Sandra McGrath and Patti Murphy -- had requested reimbursement from the city for legal fees at …

Matt Pirrello is a joke! He slaps a lawsuit on the people he is suppose to represent and gets all of his legal bills paid for by the city, and once again the citizens are an afterthought. Who in their right mind elected him for 6 years? He needs to rethink his aspirations and get out of politics!   more ›

Ellisville Article 9 Amendment Proposal Withdrawn

The City Council held a special meeting Thursday to discuss the issue, but the Council moved to have the sole agenda item withdrawn.

After a roughly four-hour meeting Wednesday, Ellisville City Council's special meeting Thursday to consider a proposal to amend Article 9's recall process lasted less than 25 minutes. Council Member Troy Pieper moved to amend the agenda and withdraw the Article 9 proposal within the first few minutes of the meeting. "I really feel this is not the right time for this," Pieper said. "We all have a lot going on." The withdrawal passed unanimously by present council members including Mayor Adam Paul. Council Member Matt Pirrello was absent from the proceedings. Residents and business owners continued to voice opinions during public comments following the withdrawal. While some admitted to changing their original comments based on the council's…

Withdrawing the proposal is one of the best moves the Board has recently taken. I just hope they don't try another way around this.   more ›

Article 9 Amendment Tabled for Special Ellisville City Council Meeting

Originally on the agenda for Wednesday's regular meeting, the last-minute agenda addition was moved to discussion Thursday because of lack of time to review.

A proposal to include an Article 9 amendment on the Nov. 6 election ballot was tabled for a special Ellisville City Council meeting Thursday.  Although the special meeting was in place before the regular council meeting Aug. 15, Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul argued there was "not enough time to review" the proposal for consideration, adding the proposal was submitted within 48 hours of the regular meeting. Paul cited the 48-hour necessity in the Ellisville Home Rule Charter, and City Attorney Paul Martin stated the proposal would be valid for Thursday's meeting. Article 9 of the Ellisville City Charter addresses recall procedures for elected officials.  Council Member Matt Pirrello proposed specific reasons should be included, such as "…

I agree, Rockwood. I have no problem if there's a change of course set by referendum of the electorate -which this bill apparently allows for. But Pirello appears (fairly or unfairly) to be attempting to protect his position and the position of his friends by rushing new restrictions.   more ›

Ellisville City Council Adds Article 9, Recall Process to Agenda

The Council will decide Aug. 15 if changes should be made to the language involving the recall of council members.

The Ellisville City Council will determine Wednesday if an amendment should be made to Article 9, a city charter element involving the process of a recall of council members. In recent sparrings regarding the potential Walmart development, a volunteer citizen group deemed Article 9 Alliance has been pushing for the recall of any council member: according to the city charter, an official cannot be recalled within the first 120 days in office, nor within 180 days from his or her next election. The agenda item, which was added late in the business day Tuesday, reads: Bill #3282: An ordinance referring to the electorate of the City of Ellisville the question of whether Article IX of the Ellisville City Charter should be amended to require the …
