Mayor Paul Hires Lawyer, Calls Impeachment Claim 'Frivolous'
In a letter to the Ellisville city clerk, Adam Paul's lawyer Chet Pleban requested a 30-day delay in a hearing before the city's Charter Review Commission that is scheduled for Monday evening.
Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul has hired lawyer Chet Pleban to represent him in a hearing on the question of whether "probable cause exists to believe that a violation of the City Charter has occurred" in a complaint against him. That initial hearing is scheduled for Monday evening; Pleban requested a 30-day delay while he investigates the details of the complaint. In that complaint, former city council member Katie James asked for a review of Paul's actions in two incidents she claimed violated the City Charter. Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul will be under review of the Charter Enforcement Commission at a meeting scheduled for Feb. 18. Katie James, a former city council member, filed a request this week for Paul's review for two incidents she claimed violated the City Charter. James suggested Paul should be impeached for the occurrences, both of which involved his requesting a police officer to remove a member of the public from meeting premises. James was an attendee removed in one case. James alleged Paul's actions violated Section 3.4(c) of the charter that reads: INTERFERENCE WITH ADMINISTRATION. A resident filed a request this week to bring Ellisville Mayor Adam Paul under review of the Charter Enforcement Commission for allegedly violating the City Charter.
Updated: Feb. 12 at 10:05 a.m. Original post: A resident of the City of Ellisville filed a request to invoke the Charter Enforcement Commission, claiming Mayor Adam Paul violated the City Charter. Katie James, a former Ellisville City Council member and board member of the TIF commission that reviewed a Walmart development in the city, formally filed the notice Monday. James said in her letter to the city that Paul violated the charter specifically on two occasions in which James claims Paul ordered a police officer in each incident to remove a meeting attendee from the premises.
