It's a day to recognize law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Are you doing anything to honor fallen officers?
According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund website, May 15 was proclaimed National Peace Officers Memorial Day by President John F. Kennedy. It takes place during National Police Week, which was reported established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962. It's a time meant to recognize police who have lost their lives in the line of duty. In honor of fallen officers, the Ballwin Police Department plans to fly its flag at at half staff Wednesay. The Ellisville Police Department said the agency has participated in memorial breakfasts honoring those who have died in duty to their community. An 86 year-old woman was the victim of a Saturday incident, but was not harmed.
Ellisville Police have no leads, but will continue canvassing the area around the location of a Saturday afternoon home invasion. Officers responded to the 1300 block of Kensington Way Drive Saturday after an 86 year-old woman reported being the victim of a home invasion by a man who said his name was Robert and that he worked for UPS. Police released this description: "...A black male, medium skin tone, age 30’s, approximately 6’2”, medium build, and had a mustache. The suspect was wearing a two-tone brown jacket with a UPS emblem and safety pins holding the jacket closed, blue jeans, a dark red St. Louis Cardinals ball cap with a yellow sticker on the underside of the bill. The station reports an 86 year-old woman was tied to her stove.
KMOV reported Sunday night that Ellisville Police are investigating a Saturday home invasion that took place on Kensington Way. "He tied me to the handle of the stove with tape, and after he left I chewed myself out I kept chewing and chewing on the tape 'til I could get loose...then I called police right away," the victim told the station Sunday night. Patch will be in touch with Ellisville Police Monday and will have more information on this story.

Ellisville police are investigating after a cell phone valued at $250 was reportedly stolen from West County Honda earlier this month.

Stealing Under $500: Police are investigating a report that between 3:00 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Friday, March 1, a cell phone was stolen from the West County Honda dealership located at 15532 Manchester Road. Two teens are accused of throwing a landscaping brick through a car window on Castle Pines Drive and stealing a radar detector. Dennis Harryvan, 18, of the 800 block of Arbor Chase Drive, and Austin McRoy, 17, of the 700 block of Oak Run, each were charged Friday with first-degree property damage and misdemeanor theft. Harryvan and McRoy live in Wildwood. Ballwin Police said that the two smashed the driver’s side window of a 2003 Kia Spectra with the landscaping brick between 9 p.m. Oct. 12 and 1 a.m. Oct. 13 in the 700 block of Castle Pines Drive. Patch is checking with Ellisville police to see if the accident caused any serious injuries.
See updated article; three in critical condition. A green Chevy pickup crashed on Manchester Road near the Blockbuster video store in Ellisville near 4 p.m. today. Ellisville police were there working the accident scene. Patch got pictures of the wreckage and the traffic in the vicinity at around 5 p.m. We're checking with Ellisville police to find out if anyone was seriously hurt in the wreck.

A man was charged July 13 with trying to cut another man with a box cutter in an Ellisville bar. Nicholas Pontello, 21, of the 200 block of Hilltop Drive in Ellisville, faces a second-degree assault charge. Ellisville Police said the man had been banned from Alibi 25, a bar and grill in the Maple Tree Center at 15856 Clayton Road, but he arrived there about 10:45 p.m. July 12. According to police, employees and at least one patron tried to convince him to leave peacefully. According to the report, Pontello swung a box cutter at one of the employees, missing his head by inches. The blade was exposed. Bond was set for Pontello at $20,000. Three men have been charged with stealing more than $25,000 in cash and jewelry during a burglary in Ellisville. Andrew M. Pollvogt, 25, of Ellisville, Christopher Weber, 25, and Tyler Robley, 22, both of Ballwin have been charged with burglarizing a home in the 1200 block of Polo Lake Drive on March 14. Witnesses saw a green Honda pulling away from the home and gave police a license plate number. The plate was traced to Pollvogt’s car, according to an Ellisville Police report. Bond was set at $30,000 for Pollvogt and $25,000 for Weber and Robley. Pollvogt has several other pending burglary and stealing charges.

The Ellisville Police Department hosted a kids safety event at St. John's Lutheran Church, featuring educational activities, games and demonstrations.
Ellisville families learned about safety at Kid's Safety Day in a fun, carnival-like environment Saturday. The event, held at St. John's Lutheran Church Saturday, was hosted by Ellisville Police Department. Parents had their kids' car seats inspected for proper installation and kids had their bike helmets fitted. They also got to explore an ambulance, fire truck and mobile command center, and watch a demonstration by an Ellisville Police canine unit. There were prizes given away all day and plenty of games to play as well.
